Dear BBA Students and Families:

Two weeks from tomorrow we will welcome the class of 2019 to Burr and Burton for Freshmen Orientation — marking the beginning of the 2015-2016 academic year. Please take the time to read through the following information and embedded links for key information regarding the opening of school.

BBA’s OnCampus Portal

During the summer Burr and Burton Academy transitioned to a new portal, OnCampus. OnCampus will transform our digital platform for teaching and learning as well as streamline information for our entire community. Students and families will access all information related to the opening of school via student and parent OnCampus accounts. After you complete the login process, outlined HERE, you will have access to student schedules, daily class schedules, the school calendar, school resources and required electronic forms. Please note that both students and parents must complete the login process and complete the electronic forms in order for students to participate in fall extracurriculars and receive their student iPad.

Burr and Burton Food Service Program

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind – Real Food For All is the new mission for food service at BBA. BBA is committed to a meals program that provides delicious healthy meals, teaches students about our food system, expands its use of locally sourced food while developing community. Read HERE to learn more about the changes, including the lower campus cafe, the revamped Meal Deal, the new swipe card system and eligibility for BBA’s Free Lunch Program.

iPad Distribution

This year, we’ve adopted a rolling approach to iPad distribution. Starting next week, students can pick up their iPad during designated pickup times. Please review the SCHEDULE and identify a time that works for you. The goal is to distribute all the iPads before the start of school. If you have questions or you cannot make a scheduled time please contact Kevin Morrison @ 549-8219 or kmorrison@burrburton.org.

Flexblock and Daily Schedule

We are excited to launch flexblock and engage students in the many opportunities created by the three 80 minute blocks. The skill of learning to use time well is vital to success, and during this flexblock, students will make decisions about where they need to be, advocate for their learning and interests, and become more independent. Opportunities include — time to meet with a teacher; collaborate with other students on projects; meet with study groups; complete assignments; work in the writing, art, or media labs; see school and college counselors; conduct research in the library; complete college applications; attend class meetings; read a book; eat lunch; make up missed quizzes/assignments and class time; or attend an enrichment activity. Faculty advisors will be actively involved in helping students to make good choices, reflect on their learning, and track their progress.

We are excited about these changes and hope they enrich and enhance our learning community.

Again, if you need support or have questions regarding OnCampus, the electronic forms or iPad distribution please contact Kevin Morrison @549-8219, Andre Wald @ 549-8218 or Rick Armitage @ 549-8179.

Thank you –

Meg Kenny
