Brooke Thorn McGowan ’11 visited several studio art classes to talk with student about their work and her recent works which include photography, painting, sculpture, design, and textile. Sitting in the room she once took her first high school classes in, she shared with students how to get the most out of their education. As a recent graduate of St Lawrence, Brooke had the opportunity to travel to Italy, the UK, Spain, and France to employ her artistic skills for various projects and plans to launch out on her own with a line of textiles that is currently in production. While in the BBA Studios, Brooke also completed a mural for the school which depicts an African Savannah and her recurring theme of elephants which she often uses to talk about the tenuous connection between humans and nature as well as the exotic animal trade. Students responded to her passion and energy for the arts, engaging with her presentations and work, and left inspired to create for their own education and change.
